In the 3 years since the founding of SINN Power in 2014, the team put a full-scale wave energy converter prototype in the ocean, filed 7 patents and patent applications, and drank more than 20,000 cups of coffee.
To celebrate those milestones, SINN Power threw a party at the company’s headquarters in Gauting, Germany. In addition to local stakeholders and the alumni community, the guests included SINN Power’s early investors like Michael Kuri or SINN Power’s first mentor, Dr. Lothar Stein.
In his welcome speech, SINN Power CEO Philipp Sinn acknowledged especially the hard work of the team, including the student alumni, without whom the start-up would not be in the same place where it is today.
Sinn stressed that the company’s special organization is part of the startup’s success secret: “Our extremely agile team helped us to launch a functioning prototype and a commercial wave energy project with only €1.5 million, while our competitors spent an average of €119 million to achieve the same.”
Since 2014, 104 current and former team members wrote 57 theses, completed 20 internships and created one terabyte of technical data. Taken together, the team members worked more than 100,000 hours to make SINN Power the world’s leading wave energy company today.

Looking ahead, CFO Tristan Jochner expects a bright future: “We are looking forward to move further ahead with our projects in Crete and on Cape Verde – and to another 20,000 cups of coffee!".
