What happens when a seven meter breaking wave hits the SINN Power wave energy converter? The SINN Power team was able to see the results in the wave tank of the University of Florence in the past week.
For the experiment, the engineers put a small model of the wave energy converter in 1:18.5 scale in the wave tank. The tank can simulate different situations: Regular small waves show how the wave energy converter functions during normal operation. In another experiment, it created actual “breakers” that pushed the mooring system to its limit.
The measured data are analyzed by the team of cooperation partner Lorenzo Cappietti at the University of Florence. SINN Power will use the results to further improve the safety of the wave energy converter in storms.
